Description: Building a culture of health has become a high priority in the United States - but how can you build a culture of health anywhere in the world and can you build a common culture of health across the world? This webinar will present a global perspective on healthy culture and highlight how culture influences health behaviors in specific countries as well as how this affects workplace health promotion programming. Specifically, the Dow Chemical journey of creating a global program and how the company was able to build a global organizational culture will be laid out. The webinar will conclude with recommendations on what to consider when implementing WHP programs globally, in different countries and with different ethnicities.
Continuing Education Credits:
The program offers 1 ACSM CEC. Please note: There is NO LONGER an additional fee for the CEC. The credit is included in the registration fee. In addition, all participants at your site are eligible to receive the ACSM CEC.
Webinar Format:
Registrants may participate in one of two ways: The first viewing method is via a combination of webinar & teleconference. Access to the internet and a phone line are required for this method. The second viewing method is entirely through your computer. You may view the powerpoint and listen to the presentation via your computer speakers or via a USB headset connected to your computer. After registering, access information will be provided to you no later than 48 hours before the webinar.
Speaker Biographies: Wolf Kirsten is Founder and President of International Health Consulting based inBerlin, Germany. His company mission is to help international corporations, organizations and governments improve the quality of life of their respective population through innovative, culturally appropriate, and cost-effective health promotion programs. Mr. Kirsten has published and edited extensively on the global aspects of health promotion and his book “Global Perspectives in Workplace Health Promotion” will comeout this fall. He has assisted numerous international corporations with the implementation and coordination of their health promotion and well-being programs. His consulting portfolio extends from China to North America and Europe to the MiddleEast, advising companies such as Nokia, Johnson & Johnson, Cisco, and John Deere. Mr. Kirsten teaches post graduate courses in health promotion at the Freie Universität inBerlin and the Hochschule Magdeburg and is a sought after speaker and trainer.He is the co-founder and board member of the International Institute for Health Promotion (IIHP), which he previously managed for eight years in Washington, DC, andon the board of the International Association of Worksite Health Promotion (IAWHP).
Dena C Pflieger is Global Health Promotion Leader for The Dow Chemical Company, with direct responsibility for leadership of all health promotion services and resources globally. This includes development and delivery oversight of the global health promotion program, delivered in 13 languages to more than 350 work locations and 200 countries. Ms. Pflieger leads Dow’s use of best practice technology for health promotion, including oversight of preventive health subject matter expertise, preventive health benefits, and management of related metrics and evaluation. In addition, she leads Dow’s Health Strategy Quality & Effectiveness and Preventive Health vision elements. In combination with her role at Dow, Ms. Pflieger leads the consumer engagement activities of the Michigan Health Information Alliance (MIHIA), a Chartered Value Exchange (CVE) as appointed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and multi-stakeholder collaborative dedicated to improving the health of people in central Michigan. She is a member of the International Committee of International Association for Worksite Health Promotion; Consumer Education Committee of Partnership for Patient Centered Primary Care and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Europe Wellness Being in the Workplace Laboratory. Ms Pflieger also serves as Dow’s EH&S/Sustainability Service Leader, helping to manage this expertise portfolio for the company.
